In 1993, a Flint Creek Greenway Plan, with interconnected hiking/biking trails, was proposed. There are three sections to this Barrington-area greenway proposal: Table of Contents and photos (3.6 MB), Plan (6.3 MB), and Maps (1.9 MB)
What Others Say About Us
These links go to external sites, use your web-browser's Back function to return to this site. Newspaper articles are not generally listed since they tend to change/drop links rather frequently.
  • "Invention Nation" on the Science Channel (a series looking at the environmental contribution groups and individuals make) interviewed Tom Vanderpoel about our floating islands for a segment in their Dec 2007 "Dirt Rules" episode.
  • In July of 2007 "Chicago Tonight" on WTTW (Ch. 11 PBS) aired a segment, "America's Missing Birds", on the disappearance of some formerly common prairie birds, with several scenes of the prairie restoration at CFC's Grigsby Prairie and Spring Creek Forest Preserve. This was later repeated on the nationwide PBS Program, "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" with a transcript available.
  • The Observer, in the UK described the city of Chicago and their trip in the fall of 2006 to Flint Creek Savanna

  • Chicago Wilderness articles include: Baker's Lake rookery revival and follow-up; volunteers, Greg LeFevre, and Waid and Tom Vanderpoel; and the 1999 return of Sandhill Cranes to Barrington.
  • The National Audubon Society had a large article about Sue Sullivan (and mentions a couple other CFC folks) describing the "citizen science" of frog monitoring.
  • The former "HOMETOWN Lake Zurich" magazine had a series of history articles. See what they wrote a few years ago about the founding of CFC and why we exist.
  • The EPA has an article about CFC and the Flint Creek restoration (in their EPA Success Stories section), in which CFC was heavily involved (it wasn't specifically stated, but several areas of improvement were in CFC's Flint Creek Savanna property).
