CFC-Cragan Conservation Scholarship Awarded

Investing in the future! Congratulations to LUCAS ROT who was awarded this year’s Citizens for Conservation Joe Cragan Conservation Scholarship. Through the generous donation of the Cragan Family, CFC is proud to co-sponsor this FOUR-YEAR college scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in environmentally related studies. The scholarship honors Joe Cragan, former teacher and chairman of the Guidance Department at Barrington High School, who was devoted to environmental efforts.

Lucas’ qualifications include demonstrated birding and botany knowledge, academic distinction, work as crew leader for the Chicago Conservation Leadership Corps, and his intellectual curiosity. He will attend LSU and pursue studies in environment protection, especially the oceans, from the effects of climate change and habitat loss.

Following current social distancing and face mask guidelines, the award was presented to Lucas by CFC President Kathleen Leitner and Barb Cragan. Lucas’s family group included his mother and father (Elizabeth and Craig), two younger brothers (T.J. and Cameron), a friend, and his proud grandparents (Cheryl and Tom Borst).
