Saturday, June 13 Citizens for Conservation held their yearly seining trip. This year our fish expert, Tom Vanderpoel, took us wading in the Des Plaines River near Libertyville. 11 children and their parents along with 3 CFC youth Education volunteers helped drag nets through the river to see what fish are swimming there. We caught 6 varieties of fish: largemouth bass, black striped top minnows, bluegill, sunfish, northern pike, and rock bass. We also caught a crayfish and found some mallard eggs on a small island in the creek. It was a beautiful day to get wet and learn about Illinois native fish.
