Expand Habitat—Starting at Home

Citizens for Conservation launched Habitat Corridors in 2014 to help local property owners transform their land into thriving extensions of our native ecosystems. By restoring habitat beyond natural areas, we give birds, butterflies, and other wildlife the food, shelter, and space they need to survive. Every yard—no matter how small—can make a difference.

Native landscapes are not only beautiful, they’re resilient. With native grasses, wildflowers, trees, and shrubs, you can create a vibrant, low-maintenance landscape—no pesticides, fertilizers, or constant watering required.

Join the movement.
Habitat Corridor home visits are free for CFC members and available to non-members for a $25 fee. Our trained volunteers will:

  • Identify native and invasive species on your property

  • Recommend plants suited to your site

  • Help you create a healthy, natural landscape

Participating properties are added to our Habitat Corridor map, connecting a growing network of restored land across the Barrington area.

More than 250 properties have already joined this effort—together forming a model now inspiring regional initiatives across the Chicago area.
