Earth Day Celebration – Sedge Planting

April 24, 2021 @ 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Join us for Earth Day!

CFC plans to celebrate Earth Day by planting the first of 18,000 wetland sedges on our new floodplain restoration project. Our Earth Day celebration will take place on April 24 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Meet at the CFC farmhouse.

CFC was graciously awarded a grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation in November of 2020. Through the funding provided from ICECF, CFC will aim to restore 5 acres of floodplain sedge meadow at our Flint Creek Savanna property. Creekside ecosystems were among one of the first to become destroyed and the last to be restored. Through selective invasive species management and planting of 18,000 native wetland sedges, CFC will be able to restore this area to ecosystem health. This will provide a creek corridor with native plantings on both sides which provides habitat to many of the local animals of the region with a special focus on wetland butterflies. The first phase of the project will be completed by April 2022 with follow up plantings continuing for many years to come.

Workday spaces are limited so be sure to reserve your spot today! To request a reserved spot please email [email protected].
